So now that the summer is winding down and the chilly months of autumn are ahead of us, I bet you all are dying to pick up some of falls hottest pieces. Motorcycle jacket, anyone? If you are anything like me, you still love all your favourite summer pieces, that LWD (Little White Dress), floral prints galore and gladiator sandals. But how? How? Does one transition these coveted pieces into an appropriate look for fall? Read on my friend, read on.
Do Wear White After Labour Day
Whoever said not to wear white after Labour Day clearly did not have a pair of some hot white
jeans or eyelet dresses. Although white is a shade often synonymous with the warm months
of July, when paired with the right pieces and colours it can look very fall appropriate. Take the ultimate cold weather shade, grey. When white pants paired with the twisted neck sweater pictured below, it takes the bright white and adds a cool, fresh look to your fall wardrobe. Add brown slouchy boots, this seasons motorcycle jacket and you are good to go. White pants and the grunge-inspired plaid shirts that appear to be everywhere are another way to bring your your bright bottoms to the forefront this fall.
One of my favourite pieces for the summer is the LWD. It adds a breath of fresh air to those hot humid days and can provide an unexpected pop to your fall staples. Take a look at (picture below)Kate Spade's Fall 2009 take on the LWD. When paired with colourful tights the look is good to go!
Colour Me a Shade of....... Pink?
Pink may not be the first colour you think of when mentally preparing you fall wardrobe. In fact, any bright colour at all may seem a little out of place, but it is all how you put it together. A bright yellow cardigan looks great with a blue plaid tunic and take a look at this style from Oscar De La Renta's fall 2009 collection (pictured below). This yellow bubble skirt looks smashing with the purple printed blouse and dark tights. From my wardrobe I have my favourite pink peasant blouse as you can see (pictured below) for summer it looked just right with white shorts but it can easily be carried into a fall look when worn with a waist-cinching belt, wide-leg trousers and again with, you guessed it! A motorcycle jacket. You can also place it with a leopard print scarf and sexy liquid leggings.
Summer Florals turn into Autumn Jewels
Just because the crispy fall leaves will soon be decorating the streets and the sun will not come out as often, does not mean you cannot still wear those fun florals. Floral prints can add an unexpected splash to your fall wardrobe and are back in style with clothing lines such as, Charlotte Ronson's for JC Penney line, I [Heart] Ronson. You can pair your dearest floral blouse, dress or skirt with your favourite boyfriend blazer, dark tights and skinny jeans. Check out the looks below. The purple floral printed Yumi Kim dress was one of my favourite summer pieces. When paired with a soft grey cardigan and slouchy boots its a perfect look for strolling around the city come fall. When wearing summer florals in the fall, it is best to place them with colours that are slightly darker to make them autumn appropriate.
Remember the key to stretching your summer wardrobe into fall is layering! Think cardigans, tights, blazers and belts. They are all the best ways autumn-ize your beloved warm weather pieces. If you have any ways to autumn-ize your fall wardrobe, share in the comments section. Happy Labour Day!
