Razzle, Dazzle Me :The Fall Clothing Show

This past weekend was The Fall Clothing Show. A famous affair where designers, vintage connoisseurs and craftspeople extraordinaire come together under one roof and sell their best pieces.

This year there was something for everyone: an abundance of wool pieces including cloche hats and shredded wool shawls, popular feathered headbands and mix 'n' match clothing from House of Spy. There was an excellent selection of vintage clothing ranging from 1940's to 1980's, full of fur coats, plaid shirts, leather boots and evening dresses, this section of the event certainly had you covered for the chilly season.

Although this was The Clothing Show, I must say it was the jewellery and accessories that took centre stage. Colourful feathered head pieces were everywhere, eclectic layered and charmed necklaces could be found on nearly every table and almost every vintage booth had an assortment of classic quilted bags (Is it just me or is Chanel in the air?) and interestingly, bright yellow pumps.

Between my mother and I, the only items that we picked up were a beautiful selection of vintage jewellery including, a cameo necklace, a diamond brooch, a pearl necklace, a gold plated anchor charm bracelet, cream quilted bag and gold chain link bag.

I guess this all goes to show that you that cannot judge a book by it's cover (in this case a title) because you never what little treasures you may be able find.

Purrrfect Vintage at the Cat's Meow

As I was walking down Avenue Road, I spotted three gorgeous red dresses. One had a sweetheart neckline with ruching along the front and side seams. The second was short sleeved with a frilled skirted piece above a pencil skirt accompanied by a large floral print. The third was passionate red goodness.

The home to these lovely dresses was The Cat's Meow Vintage. One of my favourite vintage stores, this boutique carries Pucci, Oleg Cassini and Dior. Each of the pieces are in excellent condition and stand out against the simple white walls. As I browsed through each of the fabulous dresses, it took me back to images of yesteryear, where women dressed like proper ladies and gossiped over Sunday tea.

The original Catwoman, Eartha Kitt a chante in the background purring her desire to be evil and I don't know about her but this place does the opposite for me. Some of the pieces that I cherished, were a thick strapped sheath dress with a criss-cross in the back with a large colourful floral print and a white eyelet dress with a Tiffany blue belt and A-line skirt. This store had me daydreaming of strolling the streets of the Toronto circa 1955.

If you are ever in need of something really precious, unique and beautiful, then you must pounce on The Cat's Meow located at 180 Avenue Rd. This clean boutique also has a wonderful collection of costume jewellery, silk scarves and hats.

Frugal Fashion Week: Fashion Show!

The Social was the name and a fashion show was the game!

Frugal Fashion Week continued with an exciting bar top fashion show in West Queen West's trendy club, The Social. Models strutted their stuff on the unconventional runway wearing clothes from 69 Vintage. Wide brimmed sun hats were worn by nearly every model, complimented each look from a gold metallic caftan to a brown tied shirt with white shorts.

A personal favourite of mine was a satin bodice top with a sweetheart neckline worn with high waisted linen Bermuda pants and a wide brimmed hat. The look was topped off with vintage glasses and evoked the stylish glamour of the 1950's.

Accompanying the fashion show was a Midnight Madness Sale at 69 Vintage, which was filled with leather jackets, sequined tops, floral dresses and cool shades.

Frugal Fashion Week was an experience to remember. It was all about giving back, saving money and enjoying some lovely fashion. I can't wait for the next one!
