Ethereal Light: Spring 2011 Couture Week Part One

Couture week has come to a close and it was a juxtaposition between soft pinks, flowing organza and rosette appliques and structured separates in black, royal blue and bright red. Whether it was the structured edgy separates by Jean Paul Gaultier which emphasized the waist or the tiered full length skirts from Chanel,  goddess gowns one thing was for sure and that was the celebration of femininity!

Look on and be inspired:

Elie Saab stayed true to form with his gorgeous neutrals, sheer fabric and a touch of sparkle. With rosettes and ruffles in silver, soft pink, bright red, black and green, the collection was full of lightweight full length gowns, knee length dainty dresses and shiny ladylike separates. This collection was one of my favourites and had me saying, mighty Aphrodite as the models glided along the runway is these gorgeous gowns.

The sweetheart neckline of these gowns and the elegant draping of the skirts help emphasize a feminine figure while having an air of elegance. The soft silver colour combined with the embellishments and rosettes of the 3/4 length sleeve gown, help keep the look tasteful.

Christian Dior was a beautiful collection filled with the sass of a 1950's lady and the decadent look of the fabulous gowns found in Gone With The Wind, oh and a little touch of Dior's New Look as well. It was sophistication and glamour at its finest. My favourite! This simply divine nude gown at the left, is no short of gorgeous with its touches of feline fashion with the black stripes and vertical draping. If one were to ever attend a grand ball, say the annual MET gala, this would be any cheeky lass' dress of choice. This soft yellow dress at the right, is like a fashion cloud with its layers and layers of tulle. The architectural neckline and the non-chalant pose of the model give this look an air of little devil may care.
